Crain Communications CEO KC Crain sent out the following to the staff:

Crain Team —

As we close out the year, I want to be clear about what defines us and where we’re headed. Our mission remains the same: to serve as a trusted source of information and a convener of leaders shaping the future of business and the industries we serve. The rigor of our journalism, the integrity of our brands and the communities we serve continue to define Crain. And our people — your curiosity, expertise and commitment — are what truly differentiate us.

What must change is how we deliver on that mission.

The industries we cover and the expectations of our audiences and customers continue to evolve. To lead in this environment, we need to operate as one company with one strategy. That’s what One Crain is about — strengthening our brands by scaling shared capabilities, collaborating more effectively and focusing resources where they have the greatest impact. You’re already seeing this through shared tools and platforms, stronger data infrastructure and deeper collaboration across teams.

For editorial, this means a sharper focus on audience needs — delivering journalism that provides utility, insight and perspective, not commodity coverage. We break news, and we explain what it means and why it matters across platforms and formats.

For revenue, it means aligning our sales structure to better leverage the scale and influence of our audiences across the enterprise, not just within individual brands. Our strength comes from engaged communities that value our journalism and choose to subscribe and attend events.

For product and technology, it means operating on a shared infrastructure that supports faster experimentation and product development so we can move from idea to impact more quickly.

Making this work required changes in how we’re structured and how we collaborate. Through that transition, you’ve continued to show professionalism, flexibility and commitment to the work, and I appreciate how you’ve stayed focused on serving our audiences and customers.

As this work continues in the new year, we’re committed to communicating clearly about what’s changing and why, and to engaging teams across the company as we continue to evolve.

As we enter 2026, I’m confident in our direction and optimistic about what’s ahead. We have a strong foundation and the right focus on execution.

Thank you for everything you’ve contributed this year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

KC
