Lara Jakes will join The New York Times‘ Ukraine team to cover weapons. Previously, Jakes was a reporter and editor in the Washington bureau.
She also served as a news and foreign policy editor, as well as a deputy managing editor and managing editor at Foreign Policy.
Jakes worked at The Associated Press for more than 12 years, where she held various roles including staff reporter, foreign correspondent and national security writer. She was a Washington correspondent at Hearst Newspapers and chief political writer at Times Union of Albany.
Jakes graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
