The San Francisco Chronicle has tapped Hannah Hagemann as a weather science editor to launch and lead a weather science team. She will also collaborate with a meteorologist, data reporter and a team of freelancers.
Hagemann joins from the Santa Cruz Sentinel, where she covered environment, science, wildfire impacts, and South Santa Cruz County; her work has been featured in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times.
She captured two California Journalism Awards in 2020: first place for wildfire feature coverage and second place for in-depth reporting.
Before this, she was a 2019-2020 NPR Kroc Fellow, reporting for KQED-FM 88.5, KAZU-FM 90.3, and NPR. In addition, she has also reported for NPR’s News Desk, Newscast Unit, and National Desk.
Hagemann has a B.S. and a M.S. from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
