New York Times graphics director Archie Tse and graphics deputy editor Wilson Andrews sent out the following on Monday:
We’re excited to announce that Martín González Gómez is joining the Graphics department as a graphics editor.
Martín joins us from The Economist, where he was a visual journalist, building graphics and interactives on a variety of news topics. He designed and built The Economist’s excess deaths tracker, created a 3D model to show the vulnerabilities of Russian tanks and published numerous other interactive articles about politics, the pandemic and even archaeology.
Prior to The Economist, Martín co-founded Politibot, a chatbot about Spanish and European politics, worked as a designer at Populate, a civic tech studio, and was a data journalist at El Español. He graduated from Universitat Pompeu Fabra with a degree in journalism and has recently guest lectured at universities in Spain about interactive graphics.
Martín starts today — please welcome him to The Times.
