Vacaville Reporter seeks a news editor

The Vacaville Reporter is looking for a News Editor to lead a team of reporters covering breaking news in Vacaville and the surrounding Solano County communities, along with stories both in print and online that will engage our audience.

What you will do:

  • Assigning and editing stories and checking news pages
  • Managing news budgets
  • Working cooperatively with our small team or journalists.
  • Some local reporting required

What you will bring:

  • Journalism experience, AP style knowledge and the ability to quickly compile accurate reporting on a variety of topics; spelling and grammar skills required
  • Experience working with various technologies for the position including PC laptops, digital cameras and recording equipment
  • Good people skills are necessary for conducting interviews with sources
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience in a professional journalism newsroom required

Travel:

  • Some required within the geographic region
  • Most work is done remotely.  Driving to cover stories is occasionally required

The Vacaville Reporter, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is a newspaper in the town of Vacaville, California. It also covers surrounding Solano County, California, including Fairfield, California and Dixon, California.

Salary: The annual salary range is $64,480. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
