The Verge is looking for a reporter to cover the future of streaming and entertainment with a focus on the big players who are steering the industry. From YouTube’s CoComelon to Disney Plus to the Netflix machine, you’ll connect the people driving forward entertainment at the highest levels — delivering news, reports, and analysis on developments in streaming and entertainment, with a focus on how these businesses operate.
As streaming and entertainment reporter, you’ll cover the notable stories of the day — like new and exciting film & tv franchises, big entertainment deals, and changing parts of the business like Netflix fee hikes. We’re looking for someone who gets excited about digging into new streaming services and explaining why they matter — even if they’re Quibi.
Reporters at The Verge are responsible for working with editors to identify and develop a beat. As a reporter, you will examine the streaming and entertainment industry, following the news and connecting incremental change with bigger ideas. Beyond the news, you will unpack the future of streaming and entertainment through original reporting and work your way up to delivering scoops on your beat.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing your beat with coverage from news to larger reports and analysis. Daily news writing is a must
- Working across our teams to find stories at the intersection of technology and culture
- Establish your beat and lead conversations: become the go-to reporter on the business of streaming & entertainment
- Develop and nourish sources inside the major companies and organizations on your beat
- Proactively pitch news and analysis, and help vet stories
- Help us maintain our collaborative and ambitious team culture’
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of the streaming and entertainment industry, including the major players and how they operate
- 2+ years of reporting experience
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to identify compelling angles and develop them effectively
