Sinclair Broadcast Group seeks a national news photographer

We are seeking a full-time News Photojournalist for a Washington D.C. – based evening national newscast. We want someone who can see beyond the lens and bring back compelling stories. Our goal is to offer audiences on multiple platforms something different. The kind of coverage they care about, the kind that impacts their lives – but that they cannot find anywhere else.

As a Photojournalist, you will cover day to day general, in-depth features and investigative assignments. We are shooting full HD on media cards and editing on desktops and laptops. Responsibilities will involve editing, shooting general assignment stories, lives shots, and natural sound packages. You should have strong editing skills in non-linear edit systems, possess excellent people skills, a strong work ethic, and a great attitude. A passion for story telling is essential in this position. Collaboration is a big part of this role.

Essential Duties and Requirements include the following:

  • Must be an aggressive team player who can produce great stories under tight deadlines
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to operate ENG news vehicle
  • Must be able to lift and carry between 25 and 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Technical knowledge of editing and photo equipment is required
  • Ability to execute during breaking news events
  • Must be a self-starter who can generate his or her own story ideas daily
  • Ability to demonstrate enterprise reporting and creativity in story-telling
  • Ability to work under deadline and on a flexible schedule is required
  • Contribute story ideas to daily editorial meetings
  • Participate in regular content planning meetings
  • Post content on assigned digital platforms daily
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Previous experience working in a team environment is a must
  • At least two (2) years of photojournalism experience is required
  • Considerable live shot experience is preferred
  • Must be strong at effective and engaging multiplatform storytelling
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to operate ENG news vehicles
  • Must be able to lift and carry between 25 and 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Membership in NPPA desired, but not required
