Reuters is looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious journalist with sharp news judgment to join our breaking news team in THE FRANCE & Benelux region. The position is based in our Brussels bureau. From political crises to corporate mergers to marathon EU summits on the future of European defence and security, there is rarely a dull moment in this news patch.
The successful candidate will be part of a specialist team that monitors news sources, makes split-second decisions about what matters to our readers, and pushes out headlines that are read around the world. Our aim is to give customers the news first, so every second counts. The successful candidate will be a team player who can also work quickly and independently under pressure, without compromising on accuracy.
The person doing this job will principally handle breaking news from Belgium, notably the EU institutions, NATO and France. They will be part of a broader team that also handles breaking news in The Netherlands, home to the International Criminal Court.
The successful candidate will produce news in English. Fluency in French and English is a must have, any other European languages a bonus.

About the role:
As a Senior Breaking News Correspondent at Reuters, you will:
- Be part of a specialist team that monitors news sources.
- Make split-second decisions about what matters to our readers and send out headlines on news spanning company mergers, EU decisions, NATO, war crimes cases, election results and geopolitics.
- Be a self-starter who can independently make decisions about the importance of a development and act accordingly.
- Follow up the headlines with short stories that are fast, wire-ready, and hit the right angle. The role will involve handling breaking news in English, primarily from Belgium, and possibly from The Netherlands and France.
- Work with other regional Reuters offices, coordinating breaking coverage with visuals and print colleagues and guiding a smooth news flow.
- Be expected, among other tasks, to handle breaking news from EU summits, European Commission announcements, and debates in the European parliament.
About You:
To be our Senior Breaking News Correspondent, you will have:
- The ability to push out headlines fast.
- At least ten years of professional journalism experience, preferably in a real-time news organization.
- A commitment to accuracy and a strong competitive streak.
- Resilience in high pressure situations.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
- You must have an extremely high standard of written English, and professional level of French.
