The San Diego Union-Tribune is looking for a full-time Money reporter to join our business team.
An ideal candidate would have the passion to write about the role of money in the everyday lives of San Diegans, from making ends meet in our high-cost housing market to income inequality to how young professionals are paying down student loans. You should be able to write about the intersection between social issues and money as well as craft stories that appeal to readers at different life stages, from those starting a family to recent retirees to workers in all income levels and industries. Also critical is the ability to write quickly, clearly and accurately on deadline and work collaboratively with other editors and reporters to develop larger enterprise stories.
We are a web-first team that uses social media, videos and podcasts to tell stories. But we also are one of the few daily metropolitan newspapers with a standalone print business section that runs seven days a week.
Job Description
Responsibilities include:
- Providing daily news reports and impactful enterprise stories for print and digital platforms
- Building a deep network of sources and developing relationships within our community
- Pitching in on some weekend metro reporting shifts
Requirements/qualifications include:
- The ability to simplify complex subjects in an engaging way
- A track record of creative approaches to stories
- Data reporting experience preferred but not a must
