Quartz seeks an entertainment and media industry reporter obsessed with the past, present, and future of television, film, music, and live entertainment.

The successful candidate will understand media and entertainment is both a business and a passion. They’ll be able to read earnings statements, analyze deals, and spot the financial forces behind streaming, but they’ll also have strong feelings about Bridgerton or Taylor Swift’s latest album, and be comfortable ranking the Fast and Furious films by preference. They’ll also understand the shifting nature of the industry, and be able to write about companies including Spotify, Disney, Twitch, and Condè Nast.

We are looking for a journalist with:

  • Either experience covering the entertainment and media industries or a deep familiarity with its trends and companies
  • At least five years professional reporting experience
  • Animble and adaptable approach
  • Data fluency
  • Excellent writing skills, with an ability to tell stories with conviction, clarity, and flair

At Quartz we take a global, interdisciplinary, creative, and forward-looking approach to covering the news. We love stories that connect the dots, or fill in the blanks other articles miss.

You should feel equally comfortable reporting and writing short pieces of news analysis, chart-based articles, scoops of fact or insight, and deeply reported features. The successful candidate also will contribute to Quartz’s membership emails and Daily Brief.

All locations will be considered but we are looking for candidates who are able to work on US or European business hours. (Quartz is remote-first, which means you would be onboarding in a remote environment.) To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and five links to relevant stories you’ve written and reported.

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Quartz Media and the NewsGuild of New York, CWA Local 31003, AFL-CIO. The contractual salary minimum for this position is $63,000 per year.
