Punchbowl News seeks tax, trade and economics reporter

PunPunchbowl News is looking for an experienced Tax, Trade and Economics Reporter to join our growing editorial team. The best person for this job has extensive tax, trade and economic reporting experience and is well sourced across Washington — in Congress, at the White House, throughout key agencies and on K Street. This person will thrive in a startup-oriented newsroom. Experience covering Washington’s relationship with Wall Street – or an eagerness to do so – would also be valuable.

Corporate America plays an outsized role in the power, people and politics of Washington. Companies spend tens of millions of dollars on campaigns across the country every year to try to influence tax and trade policy. Business leaders have the ear of congressional leadership. Punchbowl News is hiring another reporter to write with authority about these figures and chronicle what they are trying to do in Washington to influence tax and trade policy. This includes a particular focus on the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees.

The ideal candidate will work closely with our Premium Policy reporters and the rest of the editorial team to own coverage of the power, people and politics in the tax, trade and financial services world. We’re seeking a reporter who is fluent in the broad swath of policy considered by the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees.

Responsibilities:

  • File several dispatches each week for our flagship newsletters: Punchbowl News AM, Midday and PM
  • Co-anchor The Vault Sunday newsletter each week
  • Break market-moving news and produce thought-provoking enterprise and analysis
  • Host live newsmaker events
  • Represent Punchbowl News on television, radio and other promotional activities

Qualifications:

  • Washington and Capitol Hill reporting experience
  • A deep understanding of the tax and trade policy conversations driving Washington, K Street, Wall Street and the power players in the industry
  • Three or more years of reporting experience
  • Ability to write clean, concise copy
  • A record of breaking news and high-value enterprise

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary for this role is in the range of $80,000 – $100,000. Final compensation will be based on scope, work experience, and relevant skills.

In addition to salary, Punchbowl News is pleased to offer other benefits:

  • Punchbowl News offers a 401(k) plan and employer-matching contributions after six months of employment.
  • Punchbowl News offers robust healthcare benefits to employees (medical, dental and vision).
  • Punchbowl News covers health insurance premiums for individuals and any qualified family members.
  • Punchbowl News offers a generous and fair vacation policy with 20 days paid leave plus most federal holidays.
  • Punchbowl News offers an additional two weeks of office-wide vacation (end of August, end of December).
  • Punchbowl News offers birth parents up to five consecutive months (20 weeks) of paid leave at full salary. Partners or non-birth parents are eligible for a total of 12 weeks of paid leave.
  • Punchbowl News offers opportunities for learning and development through programs, classes and regular internal training sessions.

The job is based in Washington, D.C.
