Politico seeks consumer finance reporter

Politico is looking for an innovative reporter to cover consumer finance issues, including the federal housing agencies and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

This fast-paced beat includes following Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the dominant players in the U.S. mortgage market, and the growing power of the consumer protection bureau on issues from curbing payday lending to suing corporations.

The ideal candidate will be a strong writer with a firm grasp of finance and consumer-facing issues who is determined to own the story by relentlessly breaking news and pursuing creative enterprise.

This position is part of a team that covers the policy and politics of the regulators and congressional committees dealing with financial services. Enthusiasm for working collaboratively with other reporters is a must.

Qualifications:

A track record of breaking news and writing analytically on complex topics. Established ability to meet deadlines and multitask in a rapidly moving environment. Experience covering consumer finance and housing issues in Washington.
