Politico seeks an aviation reporter

May 25, 2021

Posted by Chris Roush

Politico is seeking an enterprising, aggressive reporter to cover the future of the skies – writing about everything from drones to airlines to the uncharted territory of commercial space.

You’ll join an ambitious, tight-knit team covering the politics and policy of every realm of transportation, including impacts to commerce, safety, climate and more. You’ll dig into regulatory filings, chase lawmakers on Capitol Hill and track corporate influence. Your work will appear across all POLITICO platforms, including our Morning Transportation newsletter, Politico Pro and politico.com.

The ideal candidate will be a deeply curious self-starter with exemplary news judgment, a track record of delivering scoops and a demonstrated ability to write with authority on complicated subjects. You should be comfortable working collaboratively and must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-moving newsroom.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience delivering high-impact scoops and enterprise on a major beat; a focus on commercial aviation or a related area is a plus
  • An excellent grasp of how to execute stories about aviation, especially emerging technologies, and their impact on society
  • A thirst for discovering stories that others haven’t told
  • A track record of navigating a demanding, fast-paced reporting job
  • A demonstrated ability to synthesize and explain complicated information
  • Experience covering Congress, agencies or regulations a plus
