Pensions & Investments, Crain Communications’ international news source of institutional investment, is seeking a part-time reporter (three days per week) to provide coverage of the Asia-Pacific region. Coverage will focus on institutional investors – including pension funds, insurance companies and sovereign wealth funds – and the money managers they work with to achieve their financial goals.

Candidates should be adept at using Google Search, Adobe and other web analytic tools to help identify and generate stories that engage readers.

Coverage is expected to provide local takes on global trends and interviews with the biggest investors. As an example, such stories could include:

  • Exclusive interviews with senior executives within APAC’s biggest pension and superannuation funds, such as Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund.
  • How leading investors are navigating current geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties and developments.
  • How managers and investors are incorporating AI into portfolio management or weighing it as an investment opportunity.
  • The growing use of private markets strategies in portfolios.
  • Major regulatory developments.
  • The challenges of building or expanding retirement systems to informal sector/gig workers.

This position requires the ability to work independently to produce editorial content about some of the largest and/or most innovative money managers and investors in the world for P&I’s online news site, pionline.com, and our monthly print publication.

We offer a creative and exciting workplace that values innovation and prioritizes in-depth, analytical reporting and narrative writing.

Location: Singapore, but other applicable locations in Asia may be considered.

Basic Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in financial journalism.
  • Proven ability to develop sources and work a beat.
  • Ability to write accurately and clearly in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to generate enterprise features and produce insightful analysis.
  • Some travel to attend conferences to make connections and develop story ideas.

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of institutional investing and specifically the work of money managers, index providers and other important firms in the sector.
  • Skilled in social media, with track record of using social tools to enhance readership.
  • Experience in moderating panels at conferences.
  • Scoop-obsessed, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Basic MS Excel ability.
  • While not a requirement, an ability to speak and read Mandarin would be a plus in an environment where more and more money managers see China as their top growth market over the coming decade.
