The Orange County Business Journal is seeking a business-focused journalist with the skills to take on various assignments, with a focus on managing the day-to-day operations of the paper’s growing web site and digital operations.

The OCBJ is the go-to source of business news for the country’s 6th largest county, with a population topping 3 million.

Your work will be read by the most powerful executives and influencers at the area’s largest companies, from Disneyland to Blizzard Entertainment to Vans and Edwards Lifesciences.

Our paper, now in its 43rd year, is profitable (even during the COVID-19 crisis), well-respected, and growing. We are privately held, and part of a company that also owns the Business Journals in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Fernando Valley.

Strong editing, reporting and organizational skills, and experience in both online and print journalism, are key for this position. Candidates should possess solid news judgement, demonstrate quick and accurate editing skills, and have a positive, energetic attitude.

The right candidate will be a detail-oriented business news driven journalist, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Daily tasks will include writing breaking news stories for our website, www.ocbj.com, editing web stories from other staff reporters, and coordinating the release of our daily e-news updates, which reach close to 50,000 subscribers.

Our online presence has grown substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic; we’re looking for someone to keep that momentum going. Familiarity with search engine optimization and other ways to boost online traffic is a must for this position.

Other weekly tasks will include oversight of industry-specific special reports that run in the weekly print edition of the paper. These sections require constant communication and coordination with our team’s editorial, advertising, and production team.

Longer-term projects, such as writing and editing duties for our glossy, annual OC500 book, will also be part of the position.
