NBC News Digital seeks data journalist

NBC News Digital is looking for a data journalist responsible for conceiving, reporting and writing stories around data and visuals. The stories will be on a variety of topics in the news, from law enforcement to pandemic, from politics to race relations to climate change.

DUTIES:

  • Identify interesting datasets and stories, and report and write them
  • Be responsible for the coverage of stories throughout the day as they arise
  • Partner with colleagues throughout the NBC News Group, occasionally help develop ideas for segments, panel discussions, series and news reports
  • Suggest and build static and interactive data visualizations and novel ways of telling stories
  • Acquire, process, parse, and occasionally combine diverse datasets
  • Be willing to work overtime and on weekends as required on breaking news stories
  • Have a strong sense of urgency and desire to learn emerging technologies and share them to the rest of the newsroom

REQUIREMENTS:

  • More than 4 years of experience in news-gathering or in a newsroom
    setting
  • More than 2 years of experience in data-focused journalism
