Money magazine seeks an editor

January 4, 2016

Posted by Chris Roush

Money, the leading personal finance brand in print and online, is looking for an experienced editor to assign and edit dynamic service content for both the magazine and website (Money.com), with a particular focus on investing and economics coverage.

This editor will help manage a small team of staff reporters and writers, in addition to freelancers, and be expected to generate story ideas and brainstorm new franchises and initiatives that help advance the brand.

Deep knowledge of the subject matter, experience working across platforms, and the ability to translate financial news and trends into actionable advice for readers is a must.

You will:

  • Take a leading role in developing smart, actionable investing and economics coverage for MONEY.
  • Assign and edit for print and the website, including features, packages, department stories, digital originals, and infographics.
  • Project manage one or more major data-driven features — setting a schedule, assigning and managing staff, overseeing analysis and editing the final project.
  • Manage and mentor a stable of writers, both staff and freelance, and work collaboratively with writers to develop ideas for print and digital.
  • Come up with ideas for features and franchises, especially in your coverage areas, that align with MONEY’s mission and advance the brand.

You have:

  • At least 10 years of experience in print and digital journalism, with several years as an editor, shaping content and coverage.
  • Broad personal finance knowledge, as well as specific knowledge of investing, economics and public policy topics that affect consumer finances.
  • A reputation as a premier idea generator; we need an editor who will routinely come up with great story ideas, small and large, in our coverage areas.
  • A knack for developing stories that are exceedingly well-reported and have high utility, giving readers the tools and info they need to act in their own best financial interest.
  • Your own roster of A+ writers, as well as the ability to mentor, manage, and develop a team of staff and freelance reporters/writers.
  • Skill writing compelling headlines, and a knack for coming up with stories that will drive clicks and traffic online.
  • Experience and skill creating graphics, and graphically driven stories in print and online.
  • On-camera skills (a plus, not a requirement).
