Marketplace is looking for a Senior Editor/Bureau Chief to run its team of talented reporters in New York, oversee its New York bureau, and represent the organization in the country’s financial capital.

We seek an experienced journalist, ready to provide leadership for his or her team with a clearly-articulated vision for Marketplace’s New York coverage over the coming months and years.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of pitching, commissioning and editing news spots and features for radio and for Marketplace’s digital platforms. Producing imaginative and original content on challenging deadlines is the foundation of this job, with its mission to explain the world of business and money in an entertaining and engaging manner.

The ideal candidate should have a firm command of key financial and economic principles, an aptitude for breaking down complex ideas and transactions in sophisticated and radio-friendly ways, and an understanding of the culture of Wall Street and the financial markets. Applicants should have significant experience in commissioning and delivering ambitious series and coverage strands with high-production values.

S/he will develop strategy for distinctive coverage, assigning features, news spots and digital reporting that meet Marketplace’s standards for originality, insight and sound. The Senior Editor/Bureau Chief also will initiate partnerships with other organizations to sustain loyal – and find new – audiences on air and online. The Senior Editor/Bureau Chief also will be responsible for producing Marketplace’s digital coverage of news, features and blogs out of New York, so the ideal candidate should demonstrate an ease with shepherding platform-native content.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in hiring and managing a cohesive team.

The ideal candidate possesses the top-level journalistic judgment and the strong leadership skills necessary to develop and maintain a positive, diverse, creative, high-performance culture. S/he will help shape organization and department policies. S/he is in charge of the bureau’s administrative and technical needs.

The position is based in New York.
