About the Role:
The ideal applicant is super-curious, as interested in the best credit card rewards program as they are in unpacking the latest student loan legislation. They are an authority on all matters personal finance, whether it be the merits of virtual currency or deep cuts from the FlyerTalk Forums. They can explain in a way that’s entertaining and engaging stuff that might, in lesser hands, come off as boring. They have strong opinions; a witty, conversational writing voice; and an unstinting editorial eye.
This person should be completely comfortable with the editorial process—from pitch to publication to promotion. If you’re a virtuoso haggler who geeks out over credit scores and tax refunds, we’d like to talk to you.
As our Personal Finance Writer, you should:
- Have at least 2 years of experience in writing about personal finance for a fast-paced digital publication
- Be organized and detail-oriented, with a clear, authoritative writing voice
- Respond nimbly to cultural and news events with related stories
- Be capable of turning around stories ranging from short news pieces to longer features at a quick pace
Duties include:
- Pitch and write a combination of quick-turn, news-pegged service stories and evergreen deeper investigations into the intricacies of personal finance for Lifehacker’s Two Cents vertical.
- Write “The Statement,” Two Cents’ newsletter
- Conceive of and write video scripts and podcast segments
- Participate in larger editorial team brainstorms, initiatives and projects
