The Editor-Reporter will be responsible for providing professional editorial content each week for Agri-View. You must be fast and accurate as an editor. You must be skilled at interviewing and researching, and have a good knowledge base of the agricultural industry.
You must be creative. As a representative of Agri-View you will work to create and maintain a strong network of industry professionals. You must have the ability and knowledge to take and provide quality photos and video. Above all you must have a passion for helping and reaching out to the heart of our country, farmers. Position Responsibilities:
- This position can be performed remotely or onsite in Madison, Wisconsin. Training and meetings will be held in the Madison area.
- Must be proficient in grammar, spelling and Associated Press style. We are a member of Associated Press.
- Must care about details and accuracy.
- Must interview, research, and professionally and proficiently write 2-3 original articles per week, with at least half of them resulting from on-farm visits.
- Each week collect and edit non-byline articles and briefs for use within each section.
- Must be able to prioritize and accomplish the workload accurately in an effective timely manner, meeting deadlines. Must update the manager on workload status on a daily or weekly basis, as needed.
- All content is entered into the BLOX content-management system.
- Must have excellent computer and internet-research skills.
- Help with creative ideas and long-range planning.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Advanced writing, interviewing and AP-Style skills
- Must process information, and then explain it in a logical and commonly understood manner
- Knowledge of agricultural industry
- Intermediate photography skills
- Ability to juggle multiple projects along with daily workload, as well as sudden changes
- Ability to find article ideas
- Strong communicator and creator
- Possess the potential for problem-solving, to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment under deadline pressure
- Highly organized and responsible
- Quality- and detail-oriented person
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and have access to a vehicle
Education & Experience:
- Minimum two years journalism degree, with emphasis in agricultural journalism or equivalent knowledge/experience
- Prefer previous journalism newsroom experience with AP Style
- Proficient knowledge of computer software necessary to complete job in a satisfactory manner, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat. Must be proficient at using the Internet, and at research and data collection.
