Guardian US is seeking a seasoned journalist to report on race, identity, and inequality for domestic and international audiences. The senior reporter will produce stories across a range of topics within this beat, including culture, health, education, social justice, politics, religion, education, and the legacies of American slavery.

This role is open to candidates based anywhere in the US. The Guardian has bureaus in New York City, Washington DC, and Los Angeles, and reporters living near one of our offices come into the office two days a week. Fully remote employees in other locations will be expected to attend some team gatherings in New York throughout the year.

Knowledge, experience, and skills
- At least seven years of reporting and feature-writing experience
- Strong track record of writing about race, identity, and inequality issues with nuance and cultural competence
- Expertise in using documents, data, and other journalistic tools to develop and report stories
- Enthusiasm for collaborating with others in the newsroom on video, audio, and interactive forms of content for the web and mobile
- Excellent news judgment and high standards for fair and accurate reporting
- Track record of forming productive relationships with diverse industry organizations, interview subjects, and other contacts
- Ability to generate fresh ideas and angles that appeal to our global readership
