The Globe and Mail is looking for a senior reporter to cover the banking beat as part of our expanding Report on Business financial services team. This high-profile beat is at the centre of Canada’s business community, focused on covering the country’s largest banks across all aspects of their business.
The ideal candidate has the ability to find story ideas that look both broadly at economic and sectoral trends, and narrowly at individual banks’ leadership and strategic decisions. The beat also includes coverage of banking regulation and other government policy – whether mortgage rule-setting, business support programs or economic stimulus efforts – when they intersect with the banking sector.
Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for building sources on Bay Street are key to this job, as is an ability to write stories of interest for Bay Street readers but also for a broader range of Canadians who want to understand these key institutions.
In this beat, the successful candidate will work closely with a team of reporters and be keen to contribute to an array of other business and political stories that involve the banking industry.
SALARY: The position is classified as Group C in the Globe’s collective agreement and reports to the senior editor for financial services.
