The Real Deal seeks a Texas reporter

February 2, 2022

Posted by Chris Roush

The Real Deal is looking for enterprising reporters to help build out our coverage in Austin, Dallas and Houston.

It’s an exciting time to cover real estate in Texas. It’s been a key beneficiary of the remote-work phenomenon, with no state income tax and government courting businesses. Developers are responding to the growing demand for housing — and the migration of tech and financial companies to the state is bound to drive activity in the commercial market as well.

Reporters will produce original news stories and in-depth features on development activity and on the people and companies central to Texas’ real estate market.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in covering money and power and a keen desire to learn how the industry brings together elements of politics, business, finance and law. The ability to break news is a must, as is the ability to cultivate sources among developers, lenders, landlords and residential and commercial brokers.

Experience covering real estate, politics or local news in Austin, Dallas or Houston is a plus.

Job requirements:

  • At least two years of reporting experience, preferably in a breaking news environment
  • Ability to break news and pursue enterprise work
  • Can write clean copy with voice
  • Ability to juggle short- and long-term projects
  • Knowledge of WordPress and various social media platforms is a plus, as is research experience
  • The vision to see groundbreaking stories in the real estate industry

Qualified applicants should send a cover letter, resume and three clips to editjobs@therealdeal.com. Please put “Texas Reporter” in the subject line along with the city you are interested in (Austin, Dallas or Houston)
