The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, covering a region of rapid growth, is on the lookout for a growth/development reporter. While we are home to major corporations like Walmart and Tyson, we also recognize the importance of smaller businesses and the developments that are shaping our community. We need someone to not only report on these changes but also to help our readers understand the broader implications of this growth. This role offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and development.
The person is responsible for generating ideas with the help of editors and coworkers, then performing research, interviewing, and producing content. The writer is expected to build sources within our communities at all levels of government and business. They will also perform other duties as assigned.
Crucial for this role is a self-starter who is at ease with reporting and writing on a diverse range of topics and in various formats. We are seeking an individual with experience in multimedia, who understands the value of teamwork and effective communication both within and outside the company. Your communication skills will be key in bringing our stories to life.
The growth/development reporter role requires a degree in journalism or a related field, as well as knowledge of the Associated Press style. Experience at a college newspaper or professional media company is a plus. The successful candidate must be able to write accurate, organized stories – often on deadline.
The position requires the ability to stand and sit for long periods. The work environment varies, but it can be loud, bright, and crowded in the newsroom at times. You must provide your own transportation. This position may work from our Fayetteville or Bentonville office, generally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some nights and weekends required. This safety-sensitive position requires a drug screening and background and motor vehicle checks.
