Fortune is seeking a smart and energetic journalist to join its Leadership Desk, reporting on the workplace, C-suite trends, and corporate America. This writer will also helm and shape our CHRO Daily newsletter, establishing Fortune as a definitive and authoritative source on HR matters, including but not limited to: hiring, return to work, labor laws, building organizational culture, remote work, compensation, risk assessment, succession planning, and DEI issues.
You will:
- Work as a reporter on Fortune’s Leadership Desk, driving coverage of the workplace and the C-suite
- Report and write a mix of quick hits and in-depth stories on deadline, including short and long form features and profiles
- Spot and capture broader workplace and career trends, and communicate them simply and concisely to our audience
- Report and write a daily newsletter aimed at HR practitioners
- Use data to guide story ideation and pitch articles that best address the topics most critical to people management teams
- Participate in Fortune events, focusing on discussions that confront topics like diversity, return to work models, employee well-being, and talent strategy
- Participate in on-camera interviews and other assignments for the video team.
The right candidate:
- Is eager to report on corporate America, whether that means toxic workplaces, trends within the C-suite, interviews with notable people, or sharp analysis of daily news
- Is a collaborative and original thinker who can quickly deliver insights, and is committed to writing must-read business news for a large audience
- Is a self-starter who writes with flair and creative authority
- Has a clear understanding of the challenges HR leaders face, the key role they play in executive teams, and brings a network of sources to lean on for reporting
- Has expertise in corporate leadership, talent management, DEI, and other workplace topics
- Embraces the unique opportunity to build relationships with readers and has a solid vision for how to achieve this
- Has solid news judgment and a strong sense for what the biggest story is at any given time.
Compensation Range: $70,000.00 – 80,000.00
Location: Our editorial team is based across time zones and international borders. This role can be based in the US, with a preference for New York City. If you’re based within commuting distance of one of our offices, there will be a minimum of 3 days/week in the office.
