Times-Union Media in Jacksonville, publisher of The Florida Times-Union and Jacksonville.com, is seeking an experienced and aggressive business editor who will provide leadership in the development of insightful digital and print coverage.

He or she will oversee coverage of often complex topics with daily breaking news and enterprise stories and lead reporters in investigations of issues important to our community. This individual will make sure reporters are holding officials accountable and are getting past the spin of public relations departments. In addition to leading a team of reporters on the business team, this editor will regularly work with reporters on other teams for stories in the business section and on special projects running in other sections of the newspaper and online.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about local business practices and leaders, as well as the industries and services vital to the economies of Jacksonville, the state and region or have similar experience in other communities. He or she will be well-versed in public records and open meetings laws and will be focused on watchdog and explanatory journalism. This editor will also look for unique ways to share news about grassroots-led innovations and our area’s growing, entrepreneurial movement.

Qualifications (preferred):

  • A digital-first mindset
  • A college degree is preferred with at least five years of experience, including time in management, in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented newsroom.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills along.
  • Excellent team-building, management and customer service skills.
  • Able to independently establish strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to strive for and maintain strong community, state and regional contacts.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Content Watch and Drupal is helpful but not essential.
  • Must have reliable transportation; possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
