The ideal candidate relishes being the first to break news in a highly competitive media market and turning spot news for both print and finance-commerce.com. The ideal candidate for this high-profile beat is a self-starter who enjoys digging into public records, databases and agendas to find stories about the latest real estate sales, trends and development proposals.
We’re looking for a persistent reporter who asks tough questions but is respectful and professional in the process. Our audience includes professionals in real estate and development, construction, finance, economic development and business, regional planning, and transportation and transit.
The candidate needs to be able to detect trends and patterns and make sense of them for our audience. Attention to detail and ease with statistics are important for the reporter covering this beat.
Other requirements: At least two years of daily newspaper reporting; experience in highly productive newsrooms; experience working under deadline pressure; skepticism; curiosity; a body of published work that shows an ability to engage, explain and enlighten readers; demonstrated ability to break news.
Desired: Journalism education; experience working with public records; experience with spreadsheets; and some knowledge of commercial real estate, development and city government.
