Dayton Daily News seeks business reporter

The Dayton Daily News is looking for an all-media journalist who is obsessed with all business topics.

The ideal candidate will investigate, write and produce business content for all of our media brands.This position focuses on the companies and organizations involved in the development/recruiting/retention/growth of new and existing employers.

This reporter also is responsible for covering some of the Dayton area’s major employers.

This beat is based on constantly pursuing these questions: What businesses are our cities, counties and economic development organizations recruiting? How are they working or not working? What commercial sites and buildings are being bought, sold or closed, and why? How are our top companies performing? What are they doing that could impact their financial health and thus their ability to employ people? Why are they making their business decisions? What employment trends are they following?  How are jobs being created and lost?

The all-media journalist will be responsible for growing the Dayton Business brand online with CMGO websites, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The journalist will help manage the content to these sites in coordination with the Business Editor.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a reporter and writer with a passion for telling great stories, and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.

They must:
have excellent reporting and writing skills, and the ability to write and edit quickly
have a knack for telling stories in a relatable and compelling way
have a demonstrated social media presence and comfort with producing digital video
be ready to write a mix of articles, including short posts that analyze the most interesting news of the day, while also working on reported medium-length and long-form features
