The Content Managing Editor tracks and manages content workflow across all products and content areas, including digital (ConsumerReports.org, mobile), print (Consumer Reports magazine, newsletters, special interest publications), and video, as well as new or emerging products. Serves as the primary liaison between Content Creation teams and individual products (magazine/Web site) to coordinate daily and monthly production and publishing deadlines. Manages content coordination staff and helps align content priorities and production with other key stakeholders across company as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of seven years’ experience working as a managing editor or editorial production manager in a multi-platform (print, web, video) publishing environment.
- Must have prior management experience and demonstrated success working in a matrixed, deadline-driven environment.
- Capable of managing priorities across multiple content groups.
- Must be able to supervise, edit, and develop editorial schedules.
- Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office applications.
- Prior experience working with editorial workflow applications and systems (print and web).
Oversees content dependencies between Print, Digital and Video and resolves gaps to ensure content is prioritized, produced and delivered according to the schedule.
Sets and communicates priorities and schedule for content work-in-progress for Content Managers, Content Development Team Leaders, Product editors, and designers across all platforms.
Works with Content Development leadership to identify available resources within their teams.
Collaborates with Digital and Video MEs to ensure that content deadlines are met across all Products and groups. Synchronizes production of video and interactive design elements with Print stories as needed. Anticipates issues with deadlines and troubleshoots unexpected delays, ensuring deadlines are met.
Manages content coordination staff including talent selection, development, performance management and staff budget.
