CNN seeks a News Editor for the National Assignment Desk. CNN News Editors pitch, research, and facilitate stories for all CNN Platforms. This role will handle editorial newsgathering in the overnight hours and is based in Atlanta or possibly other main bureau cities. This role will work with partners in digital and television continuing coverage throughout the overnight hours.

Your Role Accountabilities…

• Generates news leads via traditional and new media platforms, possessing good judgment to evaluate engaging stories including via social media, along with strong writing skills and ability to report out stories under deadline.
• Able to independently handle and manage breaking news in an overnight environment.
• Foster relationships with newsgathering partners and work closely with field personnel and executive teams to develop and execute high-quality journalism.
• Communicate with managers, bureaus and news teams regarding developing story opportunities, breaking news, and other changes throughout the overnight hours.
• Strong understanding of social media, vetting third party material and utilizing social and digital resources to confirm and deliver news to viewers/readers.

Qualifications and Experience…

• 6-8 year’s experience in newsgathering environment at a major network/local station
• Strong writing and research skills, proven editorial judgment necessary.
• Able to work under deadline in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient use of social media platforms for newsgathering
• Previous Assignment Editor experience necessary.
• Ability to handle logistics that change throughout the overnight hours.
• Schedule flexibility as the national assignment desk is staffed 24/7/365 .
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• An undergraduate degree in journalism/related field or commensurate experience is preferred.

Salary: $70,244.00 – $130,452.00 per year.
