Capital B seeks a newsletter editor

We’re looking for a forward-thinking, mission-driven editor to strengthen and expand Capital B’s email portfolio.

This role is for an innovative journalist who is excited about reaching local and national Black audiences in fun and engaging ways, and who has experience using email to cultivate loyal readership. The ideal candidate understands the habits and interests of Black news consumers, and is ready to use that knowledge to sharpen our existing newsletters and to lead the creation of new products.

The newsletter editor will be a deft collaborator, someone with demonstrated ability to work across teams to drive results. This position reports to the chief audience officer and works closely with the full audience team, including a director, editor, and three producers.

Salary: $85,000 – $100,000

Location: Remote

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Capital B’s suite of editorial newsletters by editing, scheduling, and working alongside editors to help frame emails
  • Lead the development of new local and national newsletter products
  • Work across the editorial, audience and revenue teams to utilize email to drive goals for event sign ups, memberships, sponsorships, and ad sales
  • Identify opportunities to send off-schedule communications to our newsletter subscribers
  • Experiment with new tools and formats
  • Monitor newsletter analytics to make informed decisions about improving our products
  • Write editions of Capital B newsletters as needed

What you’ll bring:

  • 4-5 years experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Nimbleness and an eagerness to try new things
  • Experience growing Black digital audiences
  • Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
  • Strong news judgment
  • Solid writing skills
  • Proficiency with Mailchimp
  • A collaborative spirit
