Bridge Magazine seeks an enterprising, versatile and knowledgeable reporter to launch a new Michigan Business Watch beat covering business news and insights across the state for our award-winning, nonpartisan, nonprofit publication.
The successful candidate will join a growing, talented team in a state rich in business news, including publicly traded mega-corporations competing in the global economy, a vibrant small business culture, distinct regional economies driven by different industries and business environments, and entrepreneurial tech, investment, and research and development clusters aiding numerous cities’ revival.
This beat will focus, through a business lens, on how public policy impacts economic growth climate; success in its many forms; innovation – from the global chess game of major corporations to the sometimes eye-popping growth of small entrepreneur; the climate and major trends in large statewide industries, including automotive and manufacturing, finance-insurance-real estate, health care, agriculture, tourism; frequent tracking of economic data and trends with keen reporting that makes statistical trends relevant to a diverse business news audience.
We seek a seasoned reporter with proven business journalism expertise who can explain complex topics in engaging ways, always with an eye for the human impact and business impact. The beat will mix breaking news with larger enterprise, efficiently turned. Sourcing is critical; a candidate should be able to quickly reach and be comfortable engaging with executives, policymakers, small business entrepreneurs as well as workers. And we seek a great colleague; a journalist who is collaborative and generous.
