Bloomberg BNA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bloomberg, and a leading source of legal, regulatory, and business information for professionals, seeks a Managing Editor to manage the operational, editorial, and production activities of assigned publications; and print and electronic notification services in the Environmental, Health and Safety News Division.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan coverage and select news items from a wide array of sources; make writing, reporting, and editing assignments; coordinate coverage and assignments with staff and special correspondents; coordinate print and electronic product updates to ensure similarity of content; ensure print and electronic production cycle deadlines are met; supervise staff and provide opportunities for development and improvement of writing, research, and other journalism and technical skills; work with HR to give staff performance evaluations and make decisions for reclassifications, promotions, terminations, and new hires; implement disciplinary actions; copyedit, report, and write material; work with cross-divisionally to develop and implement a joint editorial/marketing strategy to plan and provide information and materials for use in marketing and selling services; monitor the business and financial performance of publications and recommend changes and updates in response to customer needs and performance in the marketplace; coordinate or combine coverage with other BBNA products or services; prepare and monitor budget and ensure compliance; respond to calls and letters from subscribers; seek feedback from subscribers and cancellees regarding product usage, coverage, and value to user; explore new product proposals related to assigned publications; remain current of developments on issues related to publications’ scope of coverage; and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
7+ years’ experience in journalism, including reporting, writing, and substantive copy editing of complex material; one year of project and resource management experience; knowledge of subjects covered by assigned publications, including issues, trends, target markets, and marketing and business strategies; understanding of all systems and workflows involved in the production of print and electronic products; excellent writing, reporting, researching, editing, and copy editing skills; knowledge of government and regulatory processes; strong organizational and project management skills, including ability to use project resources and staff effectively within established schedules, budgets, and other guidelines; and excellent interpersonal skills to deal with customers, staff, and other contacts inside and outside BBNA. Bachelor’s in English or journalism preferred. Environmental news experience preferred.
