Barron’s seeks a crypto senior writer

Barron’s is seeking an enterprising and experienced journalist to develop compelling stories about the burgeoning worlds of cryptocurrencies and fintech.

The ideal candidate should be ready to offer analysis and insight off the biggest news of the day on these topics while producing revelatory enterprise and exclusives that tell readers and investors what they really need to know.

Candidates should have a working knowledge of finance and cryptocurrencies – including an understanding of blockchain technology and its applications – as well as an ability to develop sources, use records and data, break news, and write with skill and insight. We are also looking for someone with a strong ability to generate ideas and a familiarity with storytelling techniques. This journalist will be part of a hard-working and talented newsroom, so the willingness to collaborate is a must.

Requirements:

-Well sourced with the executives, personalities and technologies that drive the Crypto and FinTech industries.

-Able to generate quick and long-form ideas and excited about writing on deadline and both immediate publication and longer deadlines

-Familiarity with corporate balance sheets and financial valuations

-Comfortable using deep reporting and analysis to take a strong view about stocks and/or trends driving the industry

-Able to translate big product announcements, regulatory talk, innovation, startup news and more into language that’s useful for ordinary readers and public-market investors

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
