AP seeks technology editor in San Francisco

The Associated Press seeks a Technology Editor for its San Francisco operations.

The Technology Editor will lead The AP’s global technology coverage covers in text, photos and video. This person will oversee reporters in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and New York City who cover tech giants and startups, consumer products and trends, privacy and cybersecurity, and media and entertainment.

The right candidate will have the vision to direct smart, breaking news coverage and drive creative trend stories, helping reporters connect the dots between consumers and technology. This editor will develop coverage plans for major events like the Consumer Electronics Show and SXSW, coordinate resources on big breaking news stories and network with the tech world¹s most important companies and thinkers. The editor will work with colleagues to coordinate technology coverage on a global scale.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and creative editor who understands how to shape stories for consumers who are accessing news on all formats in real time. Candidates will see technology not as a standalone business beat, but as a topic that affects every person and industry. The right candidate will be organized, collaborative and an excellent communicator, able to navigate a complex global media organization like the AP.

Candidates must be excellent line editors able to juggle administrative and performance-management responsibilities. At least two years of management experience, including supervision of beat reporters, preferred.

Candidates must thrive on coaching reporters on ways to elevate copy, develop beats, expand sources and generate compelling story ideas. He or she must be able to work across formats, especially video and interactive data. Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
