The American Lawyer, an award-winning website and magazine and a definitive source for the nation’s legal community, seeks a smart and energetic reporter to cover the leading law firms in San Francisco and Silicon Valley with a focus on attorneys integral to the region’s innovation economy.
We’re on top of the leading business news every day—from a law firm/legal angle. We write about the lawyers who take tech companies public, drive multibillion dollar deals, work with venture capitalists to get crucial funding for startups and compete fiercely with other peer firms.
Responsibilities:
- Produce breaking news stories that are well written and comprehensive despite tight deadline pressure
- Develop sources, establish and broaden a base of industry contacts
- Produce enterprise articles including features and investigative pieces, and know how to juggle these with daily news commitments
- Work well in a team environment with colleagues based around the world
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Journalism, English or related field of study.
- Ability to develop ongoing source relationships.
- Strong reporting and writing skills.
- Good interviewing skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong nose for news.
- Able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.
- Legal and/or business journalism experience a plus, as in an interest in analyzing data sets including survey data.
