This reporting role offers a rare opportunity to cover cutting-edge research, innovation and policy across public and private sectors, from Los Alamos and Sandia to large-scale utility acquisitions and the burgeoning quantum technology industry. We’re looking for a journalist who’s curious, skilled and ready to dive deep into complex topics that impact New Mexico’s economy.

  • Conduct interviews and gather information from a wide range of sources, including government, industry, academia and the public.
  • Collaborate with editors, photographers and multimedia teams to enhance storytelling with visuals, graphics, and digital components.
  • Participate in live coverage or multimedia projects as assigned.
  • Contribute to a weekly business-focused podcast.
  • Cultivate and maintain a strong network of sources in tech, energy, utilities and national labs.
  • Attend business community events.
  • Participate in local business and community gatherings.
  • Meet deadlines and juggle multiple assignments in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Uphold the Journal’s standards for accuracy, fairness and journalistic integrity.
