This reporting role offers a rare opportunity to cover cutting-edge research, innovation and policy across public and private sectors, from Los Alamos and Sandia to large-scale utility acquisitions and the burgeoning quantum technology industry. We’re looking for a journalist who’s curious, skilled and ready to dive deep into complex topics that impact New Mexico’s economy.
Responsibilities
- Research, pitch and develop compelling story ideas across your assigned beats.
- Report and write clear, engaging, and well-sourced news and feature articles for both print and digital platforms.
- Conduct interviews and gather information from a wide range of sources, including government, industry, academia and the public.
- Collaborate with editors, photographers and multimedia teams to enhance storytelling with visuals, graphics, and digital components.
- Participate in live coverage or multimedia projects as assigned.
- Contribute to a weekly business-focused podcast.
- Cultivate and maintain a strong network of sources in tech, energy, utilities and national labs.
- Attend business community events.
- Participate in local business and community gatherings.
- Meet deadlines and juggle multiple assignments in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Uphold the Journal’s standards for accuracy, fairness and journalistic integrity.
