Aiken Standard seeks a multimedia journalist

Aiken Standard Notice of Job Opening Position: Multimedia Reporter

The Aiken Standard, a daily newspaper in Aiken, S.C., is seeking to add multiple full-time reporters to our award-winning team.

Ideal candidates have experience in a newsroom environment along with strong editing, multimedia and photography skills.

We are hiring reporters to cover education and general assignment beats.

Assignments will range from event coverage, breaking news, coverage of government meetings, feature profiles and more in-depth enterprise pieces.

Aiken Standard is owned by Evening Post Publishing Newspaper Group, parent company to our sister paper, The Post and Courier of Charleston, S.C.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • General assignment and beat reporting
  • Generating story ideas and localizing national headlines
  • Attending government meetings
  • Meeting deadlines
  • Writing enterprise and in-depth pieces
  • Taking photographs and video to accompany stories
  • Utilizing social media daily to post articles and for community engagement

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications
  • Strong skills with writing, editing and AP style
  • Previous experience in a newsroom environment
  • Knowledge of the community of Aiken, S.C., and surrounding cities a plus
