July 8, 2014

Posted by Chris Roush

AP’s Business News department is looking for an energetic and aggressive reporter who is fascinated by the gadgets and apps being launched out of Silicon Valley and wants to explain how new devices, innovative services and influential companies are changing our lives at work and at home.

We need someone who can consistently break news and deliver high-impact enterprise stories that appeal to AP’s global audience. The ideal reporter is an idea machine — someone who thinks creatively and critically and is driven by curiosity. No topic is off limits — venture capital, social media, drones, biotechnology, online shopping and advertising, personal privacy and cyber-security are all areas of interest. It is essential that this reporter write clearly, concisely and conversationally.

Qualifications:

The right candidate will have a deep interest in technology and its impact on society. He or she must have a demonstrated talent for writing compelling stories grounded in rigorous, thought-provoking analysis. While solid news judgment is a must, so is the ability to develop enterprise stories that will appeal to a general-news audience.

Candidates must have proven ability to cultivate sources, break news and synthesize information in a way that enables readers to see the big picture. The reporter should be comfortable analyzing corporate financial filings from S-1s to quarterly reports, and should possess a knack for making sense of business decisions and financial deals. At least three years of experience in daily journalism is required. Enthusiasm and collegiality are a must.  The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent-level experience.
