Wired executive editor Brian Barrett sent out the following on Monday:
Hi all,
I am beyond thrilled to welcome Dhruv Mehrotra back to WIRED. Yes, Dhruv is coming home.
For many of you, Dhruv needs no introduction. While he’s coming to us from Bloomberg, he previously spent several years publishing some of WIRED’s most consequential work: JD Vance’s Venmo. Epstein’s Island visitors. Torswats. Shotspotter. Neuralink monkeys. The list goes on much longer.
What you’ll notice about these stories is that they uniformly contain the kind of original, innovative, agenda-setting reporting that has become Dhruv’s hallmark. You’ll also notice that they all have a cobyline, which speaks both to Dhruv’s collaborative spirit and the role he’ll once again play in our newsroom: a brilliant technologist and reporter who will work across desks to make all of our journalism better. He and Maddy combined will be a force to be reckoned with.
We’re in an environment where the “story zero” concept matters more than ever. It takes a lot to break through. Dhruv does it better than anyone.
Dhruv will be based out of the New York office and will report to Andrew. He starts on Monday, May 18.
