Rob Reuteman, business editor of the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, has been named secretary of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, effective May 2007.
In joining “the ladder,” Reuteman will serve a year each as secretary, then treasurer, vice president and president of SABEW. 
Reuteman, 56, joined the SABEW Board of Governors last year, served on the Internet committee that redesigned the SABEW web site and helped plan the Fall 2006 meeting in November.
He has been business editor of the Rocky since 1997 and previously served there as state/regional editor, city editor and national editor. Under his direction, the Rocky staff has won several SABEW Best in Business awards.
“I attended my first SABEW convention in 1998 and haven’t missed one since,” he said. “For years, I felt like I was on the outside looking into an amazing group of committed people. After more than 25 years in the god-forsaken newspaper business, I’m happy for the opportunity to give back to this wacky profession.”
Other SABEW officers are the president, Dave Kansas of The Wall Street Journal; the vice president, Gail DeGeorge of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel; the treasurer, Bernie Kohn of the Baltimore Sun, and the secretary, Greg McCune of Reuters. Terms commence during SABEW’s annual meeting, which is held each spring. The 2007 meeting will be held May 20-22 in Anaheim, Calif.
Reuteman, a native of Milwaukee, has lived in the Denver-Boulder area since 1973 and previously worked as city editor at the Longmont (Colo.) Daily Times-Call and as a reporter and city editor at the Golden (Colo.) Daily Transcript, now defunct.
Reuteman has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s in English from the University of Wisconsin.
