Bloomberg News tech reporter Eric Newcomer has left the news organization to start an independent newsletter called Newcomer.
He writes, “I quit my job at Bloomberg — where I’ve scooped IPO news, acquisitions and financing rounds and written about startups before they were cool and exposed them when they were overhyped — to write for the industry. That means the founders, the people who work for them, the people who fund them, the people who want to join their ranks, and the people who think they should be fired.”
He follows fellow tech journalists Alex Kantrowitz and Casey Newton, who left BuzzFeed and The Verge, respectively, earlier this year to launch newsletters.
Newcomer has been covering the tech and politics beat for Bloomberg fore the past year and previously covered Uber.
He joined Bloomberg in 2014. Newcomer joined from The Information, where he covered start-ups and venture capital and broke news including Amazon’s acquisition of Twitch.
Before moving to San Francisco, he covered D.C. City Hall for the Washington Examiner, where he wrote about the mayor’s budget, corruption scandals and city council races.
In the summer of 2012, he worked as a James Reston Reporting Fellow for the New York Times.
