The Wall Street Journal has hired USA Today managing editor of money and consumer tech Philana Patterson.

She will be deputy editor of newsroom standards. Her last day at USA Today is Oct. 9.

“I’m excited to be joining the team and reuniting with colleagues who I worked with at Dow Jones Newswires many years ago, former Associated Press colleagues who are now there, and others who I have encountered on my professional journey,” Patterson wrote on Facebook.

Patterson joined USA Today in 2015 after being assistant business editor at the Associated Press. He was initial deputy money editor at USA Today.

At the AP, she oversaw the launch of earnings automation, which used a computer model to write basic earnings stories about thousands of companies. Previously she launched AP Small Business, and of course played a vital role in the department running the breaking news desk.

She previously worked for Black Enterprise, Dow Jones Newswires and Bloomberg News.
