Quartz editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following announcement on Monday:
I’m sad to share the news that Max Nisen and Shelly Banjo will be leaving Quartz, with their last days next Thursday. They both are going to Bloomberg.
Max and Shelly have distinguished themselves during their time at Quartz not only for their journalism, but also for being unfailingly generous, constructive, and collegial.
Stories by Max that stand out especially in my mind include his piece on Chipotle’s system of internal promotions, and the story of GE’s evolution away from performance reviews. He’s also shown great talent for smart daily pieces, such as the one about the engineer whose job offer was rescinded after he mused about it on Quora.
Shelly’s articles on the perils of product crowdfunding and the world’s worst-named startup (it was called “Grexit”) are among the distinctive pieces she’s done for Quartz.
We fortunately have a talented pool of candidates to bring on for these positions, and aim to do so quickly. But if there’s anyone you’d recommend we speak to, please send their details along to me and Xana.
And please join me in wishing Max and Shelly well.
Both are joining Bloomberg’s new Gadfly project as columnists writing about retail and consumer news (Banjo) and biotech and pharma (Nisen).
