Gizmodo hires two new tech reporters

gizmodo-heroGizmodo editor in chief Kelly Bourdet sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Hi all,

Have some exciting news this Monday. We’ve got two amazing new reporters starting this month!

Welcome to gizmodo, folks.

Sam Rutherford, Senior Reporter, Consumer Tech

Sam is a Northeastern University graduate who comes to Gizmodo after serving as senior product reviews analyst at Tom’s Guide and Laptop Mag. He’s covered everything from smartphones to cars and loves getting down and dirty with all the latest tech, figuring out what’s good and what kind of nonsense companies are trying to dress up next. He grew up mostly in Connecticut, but has lived in Saudi Arabia, England and Taiwan, where he spent a year and a half learning Mandarin (functional, but not quite fluent). Before getting into tech professionally, he was an archery instructor and a penguin caretaker at the New England Aquarium.

tbh I have no idea why a person would leave a rewarding career caretaking penguins to become a journalist, but we’re lucky you did, Sam!

Sam will be here July 26. You can follow him on twitter here.

Melanie Ehrenkranz, Senior Reporter, Consumer Tech

Melanie comes from Mic, where she covered tech news, Silicon Valley culture and weird internet shit. Prior to Mic, she was the editorial researcher and then managing editor at PSFK, where she focused on design and the future. She still buys her cats new toys in Neko Atsume and loves (but doesn’t trust) a cute robot.

All my Neko Atsume cats are starving, Melanie, so I appreciate your dedication.

Melanie will arrive July 31. Follow her on twitter.
