John Cook

Alyson Shontell, editor in chief of Business Insider in the United States, sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Hi all,

We are thrilled to announce a new hire to our team. John Cook will be joining as Business Insider’s Investigations Editor.

John’s mission is to build on our reputation for big impact stories that make a lot of noise — and make a difference — in the world of business. He will report to me and work with reporters across the newsroom. John will also explore building out a dedicated investigations team.

John has been a reporter and an editor for more than 20 years, serving as executive editor of Gawker Media, editor-in-chief of The Intercept, and founder of Gizmodo Media Group’s investigations team, the Special Projects Desk.

He has written or worked for The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times Magazine, Slate, Columbia Journalism Review, The Los Angeles Times, and many other outlets. He also taught magazine writing at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

We could not be more excited to welcome John to Business Insider. He will join us on May 6.
