Paul Thompson, the managing editor of the Phoenix Business Journal, has been promoted to editor in chief of the American City Business Journals publication.
He will replace Greg Barr, who is retiring.
A story on the Business Journal website states, “Thompson will oversee the publication’s online and print content, as well as newsroom-driven events such as the annual Growth Summit series focused on economic development in the region. In additon, he will work alongside other Business Journal managers to oversee the publication’s awards content.
“‘Paul has exceeded all our expectations as a managing editor since he moved here from our sister publication, the Austin Business Journal, more than three years ago. He’s proven himself as a leader in the newsroom and is well-prepared to lead in his new role as editor-in-chief now and into the future,’ said Ray Schey, the Business Journal’s market president and publisher. ‘I’m excited for Paul to continue the high journalism standards the Phoenix Business Journal has established for nearly 50 years as he focuses on our print, digital and event content.’
“Thompson had overseen the day-to-day operation of the newsroom, working closely with reporters and other editors to coordinate coverage since arriving in Phoenix after five years as assistant managing editor in Austin.”
