The following announcement was sent out by The Washington Post director of emerging news products Christopher Meighan and design director of emerging news products Amy Cavenaile:

We are excited to announce that Emma Kumer is joining The Post as a designer on the Emerging News Products Stories team.

Emma comes to us from Reader’s Digest where she created digital collages and illustrations for the website and animated short-form videos for Instagram. In her new role on the Stories team, Emma will focus on visually optimizing The Post’s most timely, topical and engaging journalism for Instagram Stories and Snapchat’s Discover surfaces.

Emma is a 2020 graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. During her time at Northwestern, she joined The Post for a three-month fellowship, during which she created print and digital designs as well as animations for Snapchat Discover.

In her free time, you’ll find Emma writing fiction, running marathons, collaging any surface imaginable, judging every book by its cover and listening to indie rock.

Please join us in welcoming Emma. Her first day is April 12.
