Walsh named chief Africa correspondent at The New York Times

Declan Walsh, former Cairo bureau chief at The New York Times, will now take on the post of chief Africa correspondent for the publication.

In his new role, Walsh will join a team of correspondents based in Nairobi, Dakar and Johannesburg to report on climate change, the role of technology, income inequality, migration and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously, Walsh was a correspondent at The Guardian. Before that, he was working as a freelance Africa correspondent for The Independent.

Walsh holds a master’s degree in journalism from Dublin City University.
