The Independent has appointed Lizzie Dearden home affairs editor. She previously served as home affairs and security correspondent.
Dearden joined The Independent in 2013 as a freelancer and then became an online news reporter, before transitioning into the role of senior reporter. She has also reported for Archant and was a freelance reporter at The Sunday Times.
She has also interned at PoliticsHome.
Additionally, she has worked in the UK at The Wimbledon Guardian, The Surrey Comet, and the BBC. She also worked freelance for Guardian News & Media.
Dearden is a University of York graduate and a NCTJ-certified journalist.
